Care At Home – Deckchair Care

The Cost of Homecare

A Quick Guide to Care Funding

There is no escaping the fact that homecare, much like residential care, comes at a cost. At Deckchair Care, we take the financial implications of our services very seriously. We work closely with our clients and their families to strike the right balance: delivering exceptional care while remaining mindful of individual financial concerns and constraints.

As a local, private company, we pride ourselves on building strong, empathetic relationships. This connection often allows us to stay one step ahead, providing proactive ideas and plans that offer true reassurance. We continually review our fee structure to ensure every cost is backed by genuine value. Our commitment to transparency includes:

  • No hidden extras: We do not charge additional petrol or travel fees.

  • Hospital stay flexibility: We waive all charges during the first seven days of a hospital stay before discussing retainers.

  • Fair cancellations: We offer a short 48-hour notice period for visit cancellations.

At Deckchair Care, when you pay for care time, you receive every minute of it. In many cases, we prove more cost-effective than providers with lower hourly rates who may not deliver the full duration of care required for a high standard of support.

Navigating the costs of care can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. At Deckchair Care, we are here to provide clarity and support as you explore the best options for your family.

Self-Funding your Care:

Many families already know they are not eligible for local authority funding and choose to come to us directly.

  • Getting Started: Simply call us at 0161 327 2894 or email icare@deckchaircare.co.uk. We will discuss your specific needs and create a tailored plan from there.

  • Rapid Response: If you need care urgently, don’t worry. We have a proven track record of completing full care reviews and deploying dedicated teams at very short notice.

  • Early Intervention: Introducing care early is often the key to success—especially if a loved one is initially reluctant. Our office and care teams work in total harmony to ensure the transition is seamless and stress-free.

Are you eligible for financial support?

The type of funding available to you usually depends on your health needs and your total assets.

Local Authority Funding & Direct Payments

Currently, individuals with assets (savings and property) below £23,250 may qualify for local authority funding.

While councils have their own lists of providers, you have the right to choose your own care through “Direct Payments.” This means the local authority pays the funds directly to you, allowing you to select a provider you trust. Deckchair Care has extensive experience working with funding teams across Manchester, Stockport, and Cheshire, enabling our clients to receive the high-standard care they choose for themselves.

Apply for Direct Payments in your area:

Personal Health Budget (PHB)

A Personal Health Budget offers a holistic way to manage funding. It provides greater flexibility to choose services that meet specific goals and health outcomes. If your assets fall below the threshold, you can discuss the possibility of a PHB with your local Social Care team.

NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)

NHS Continuing Healthcare is a package of care funded solely by the NHS. This is specifically for individuals with “primary health needs”—complex, substantial, and ongoing health requirements that go beyond the remit of local authority social care.

  • How to apply: If you believe you or your loved one may be eligible, you can request a Continuing Healthcare Checklist from your GP or social worker to begin the assessment process.
